“In 2020, more than 800 000 infections occurred in the EU/ EEA due to bacteria resistant to antibiotics, and that more than 35 000 people died as a direct consequence of these infections.

It has been estimated that a mixed intervention package including enhanced hygiene, antibiotic stewardship programmes, mass media campaigns, and the use of rapid diagnostic tests would have the potential to prevent approximately 27 000 deaths each year in the EU/ EEA”
