The recently published OZAVIE observational study confirms that the combination of ceftazidime and avibactam (CAZ-AVI) is effective, with a clinical success rate ranging from 63.4% to 79% in the treatment of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative (MDR-GNB) infections. These rates increase from 65.6% to 81.7% when studying the clinical response to dual therapy for P. aeruginosa infections. Furthermore, the study highlights the good safety profile of the combination, with 17.4% of adverse events possibly attributable to it, only 6.2% of which were serious. The study also reinforces the role of CAZ-AVI in the therapeutic strategy for MDR-GNB infections, while raising the need to assess its ecological impact in future research.
