A research assistant position related to the characterization of antibiotic activity and selectivity of natural products.

Job description
-Running microbiological assays to evaluate potency of small molecule antibiotics.
-Running mammalian cell biological experiments, mainly viability and morphological profiling assays, to evaluate selectivity of small molecule antibiotics.
-Running resistance experiments.
-Preparing pre-clinical experiments in rodent infection models
-Interacting with collaborators with respect to mechanistic studies.

Your profile

  • A master degree in medicinal chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or a similar field is required
  • Prior experience working with diverse aspects of antibiotic evaluation: e.g. MICdeterminations, persister cell assays, biofilm assays.
  • Prior experience working with mammalian cells including viability assays and – preferably – also morphological profiling (cell painting).


  • Highly motivated and capable of individual problemsolving
  • Ability to interact constructively with other team members with different scientific competences.

Who are we / The department

Research in the Poulsen lab is overall focused on the discovery of new targets/pathways involved in human disease.

The work spans from mechanistic studies of bioactive small molecules to focused investigations of the biology of defined disease-related proteins. Please consult our website to see some of our previous projects.

The place of employment is Aarhus University and the work place will be at Department of Chemistry.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
